Take the processing away and have a glance at a jpeg equal and the end result would look terrible. They can more and more dazzle with quality for most every thing between wide-angle and modest telephoto. I really have ultra-cheap EF zooms from the movie days that simply trounce this. These are the perfect conditions beneath which a cellphone can stack up pretty nicely towards a compact 12mp common digicam. The inexpensive tele will still be working perfectly in 10 years, and if it is respectable, will still be value cash.
